Some of the don’ts of carpet cleaning that you should avoid are:

• Don’t scrub or rub the spot. That will just work it more deeply into the carpet and spread it around. It can damage the fibers, to boot.
• Don’t oversaturate the carpet with any liquid products. They should be used sparingly.
• Don’t try to pull out carpet snags.
• Make sure you don’t use a cleaner that will stain or harm the type of carpeting that you have. Test your cleaner on a small, hidden piece of carpet before using it in a visible area.
